This helpful guide will help get started using the NaviLens app - an app designed to enable people with a visual impairment to navigate unfamiliar environments independently.
The app can be used at Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans sites.
Our guide is available in audio, PDF, Word and Braille to make it as accessible as possible.

What is the NaviLens app?
NaviLens is an app for Apple and Android devices that is designed to enable people with a visual impairment to navigate unfamiliar environments independently.
It uses NaviLens codes, which are similar to QR codes, to help navigate the user around a space using the camera on their device.
How do I use the Navilens App?
The user simply opens the app and holds up their phone as if they are taking a photo. The app uses the camera to detect a code - it will indicate this with a sound - and will read the code aloud and let the user know how far away they are from it.
These NaviLens codes are used throughout our Veterens Centres and have been placed in key areas around the building to provide useful information to a person navigating through the space. The app is simple to use, and it was recently piloted at our HawkHead Centre.
