Sight Scotland Veterans and Sight Scotland, in partnership with Visually Impaired Edinburgh Velo and Thistle, are hosting a special event for people with sight loss.

Event Details

When: Thursday 12 June from 10:00am to 2:00pm

Where: Saughton Park in Edinburgh (entry from Ford's Road, EH11 3HR)

Who: Anyone who is supported by Sight Scotland or Sight Scotland Veterans

Vie Velo is an Edinburgh cycling club that pairs visually impaired riders with sighted pilots to take part in sociable leisure rides. They'll be joined by their sister club, Thistle, to offer rides and talks on a range of tandem and adaptive bikes for people with sight loss, poor mobility, limb loss/weakness, and for wheelchair users.

Experienced pilots and club riders with visual impairments will be on hand to answer your questions, explain how they got into it and share the joy they get from riding. You'll get the chance to try for yourself if you'd like and go for a short ride in a safe and friendly environment. Taster rides will be available in the morning from 10:00am and will be followed by a buffet lunch in the nearby Conservatory in the park.

This event is open to anyone who is supported by Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans; age is no limit and no prior experience or skills are required. Parking is available for minibuses and cars. There will also be a bus transfer service for veterans coming from and returning to our Linburn Centre that day.

Numbers are limited, so places will be offered on a first come basis. Please sign-up as soon as you can to avoid disappointment, and no later than Friday 23 May by phoning 0800 035 6409. On registration we will note any special dietary requirements you might have and your preferred means of transport.

This event is generously sponsored by City of Edinburgh Council.
