Marie joined Sight Scotland two and a half years ago as a Rehabilitation and Mobility Officer in Edinburgh, after previously working in a similar role with Glasgow City Council for 21 years.
Offering practical support to anyone who is affected by sight loss, her team conduct Vision Needs Assessments, evaluating how a person's sight loss is impacting their day-to-day life. This involves finding out what support networks they have, how they manage in their home, and if they need help with their daily living skills.

"The biggest priority with a mobility assessment is safety. I also talk to people about their social activities and how they are meeting friends or family - this is so important as having a vision impairment can be quite isolating. It is our job to make these tasks safer and easier, giving people greater confidence and independence.
“Technology has transformed how we do our jobs, and it is constantly evolving which is amazing. It is vital that people are shown what help is out there, as it really is life-changing. As a team, it is essential that we keep up with all the latest technology advancements so we can utilise them and teach them to our clients."
