Sight Scotland's Fair Rail Campaign is a finalist in the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland’s Self Management Awards 2025 in the Sensory Impairment: Positive Self Management category.
Earlier this year we shared that after two years of running our Fair Rail campaign, a pilot project to extend free rail travel for companions of Blind Persons Concessionary Travel cardholders was agreed in the Scottish Government's Fair Fares Review in March 2024.
Our Fair Rail campaign calls for:
- Free rail travel for the companions of those with a National (Scotland) Concessionary Travel for Blind Persons card
- Accessible rail travel for blind and partially sighted people
- A consistent policy across Scotland, wherever you are travelling
We're delighted that our campaign is getting this recognition for supporting people with long term health conditions to live the life they want.
“We’re thrilled that our Fair Rail Campaign – calling for free companion rail travel for severely sight impaired people– has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Self Management Awards 2025 in the Sensory Impairment: Positive Self Management category. This recognition highlights the significant impact we’re taking to make train travel fairer and more accessible for people with sight loss. A huge thanks to everyone who has supported the campaign."
The Self Management Awards, run by the Health and Social Care Alliance (the ALLIANCE), present the annual accolades in recognition and celebration of the achievements of people and projects that have contributed the most to self management in Scotland over the past year.
The Self Management Awards are part of the ALLIANCE’s annual Self Management Week, which are set to run from 22 to 25 September 2025, with a range of activities and events taking place to promote self management practices.
The winning campaign will be announced at the awards ceremony on Wednesday 24 September between 6pm and 8pm in Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh.
