Last month Sight Loss Councils Scotland (SLC) held its first ‘Train the Trainer’ event for Glasgow SLC members.
'Train the Trainer' is an opportunity for members with lived experience to be involved with the creation and delivery of V.I Awareness and Sighted Guiding training across the nation.
Members highlighted the importance of education around various VI conditions, common stereotypes that they and others with VI face and their experiences in different spaces - all with a positive outlook on how the standards for good practice can be implemented in Scotland.
The session was invaluable at understanding some of the key challenges and experiences of those with lived experience of visual impairment and sight loss, highlighting just how important lived experience is in delivering authentic and inclusive services.
This was a fantastic day of learning and skills development for Glasgow SLC and we plan to run more sessions with our other two SLCs in Edinburgh and Dumfries and Galloway, with hopes to have members involved and running our future collaborations and events.
