Volunteer Vacancies

Telephone/Virtual Group Facilitator - Hawkhead and Linburn Centres

During the pandemic, our group calls with veterans from all across Scotland have been hugely popular and a great way of keeping our engagement with them during a difficult time. Because of the success we’ve seen in encouraging greater peer and personal support for our members, we want to keep these calls running beyond the pandemic and are looking for volunteers to facilitate the groups.

We need friendly and motivated volunteers who can take part in these calls in a group facilitator role. You would be volunteering from home initially, but as we emerge from the pandemic other options can be discussed. An experienced staff member will join you on your first few calls, and plenty of other support is available.

There is so much we can offer within this piece of work, and events to date include quizzes, games, and facilitated discussions of relevant topics. We have also trialled an art group over our group conference system. We know much more is possible in the future, so this is a volunteer role you can really develop and explore with us.

As a volunteer, you will get to know inspiring people, gain valuable experiences, and help us to change the lives of those who have served their country.

Volunteer Telephone Befriender (Sight Scotland Veterans)

It’s good to talk! If you love a relaxed, friendly chat on the phone and if the idea of doing this whilst also making a genuine impact as a volunteer sounds too good to be true … read on.

Our members tell us that their regular check-ins and chats with someone at Sight Scotland Veterans are something they look forward to. Sometimes they can even be a lifeline. Just a simple phone call once a week can make the difference that helps one of our members overcome the effects of isolation and loneliness.

We need a friendly and naturally chatty home-based volunteer who can check in regularly with our members by phone, take some time to make sure they are doing OK, and fill them in with all the latest gossip at Sight Scotland Veterans. You will never be cold calling, there’s no pressure and nothing to sell. We will only ask you to call signed-up Sight Scotland Veterans members who we know will be only too happy to hear from you.

As a volunteer, you will get to know inspiring people, gain valuable experiences, and help us to change the lives of those who have served their country.
