Welcome to our magazine The Bugle.

Each edition aims to keep our community of veterans up-to-date with the latest information from across the charity. We share veterans' stories and experiences, guidance from veterans on adapting to sight loss, top tips from our expert team, and more.

The Bugle is sent to veterans we support who have opted in to receive news from ourselves. It is available in large print, email and audio formats.

The Bugle - Autumn 2021 edition

Welcome to the Autumn edition of The Bugle.

In this edition, we hear from two RAF veterans – a morse code operator who worked at a secret West Scotland location, and an air traffic controller who flew suitcases of gold to a Sultan. We also share the news of two veterans who were celebrated at the Scottish Veterans Awards. We have information on the Hub, a new service for veterans. In addition, The Bugle provides information about the importance of regular eye checks, how to access audio descriptions, and the new requirement that fire alarms be interlinked.

In our service updates, we have information about returning to centres, and how to book the holiday cottage at Linburn.

Enjoy!

The Bugle - Winter 2020 edition

Welcome to the winter 2020/21 edition of The Bugle, from the team at Sight Scotland Veterans, the new name for Scottish War Blinded.

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, our services are still operating differently at the moment. However, despite this, we’re pleased to still be able to share with you a range of member stories, top tips from our expert rehabilitation team, activities to do at home and more.

In this edition, we focus on wellbeing in winter. As the days grow shorter and darker nights set in, we provide some winter mobility tips, news on our sighted guide walks in areas where this is allowed, as well as activities for you to do at home.

The Bugle - Autumn 2020 edition

Welcome to the autumn edition of The Bugle, Scottish War Blinded’s quarterly member newsletter. In this edition of The Bugle, we’re pleased to share further details about the charity’s plan for the future. We also introduce you to the new Interim Director of Scottish War Blinded, Clair Bryan, who would like to share a message with members.

As lockdown measures continue to ease, we have been able to make some changes to the way we’re currently supporting members. Including home visits where staff wear full PPE and carry out social distancing. We also share stories from members who have been creative during lockdown, as well as useful information about magnifiers from our expert rehabilitation team.

The Bugle - Summer 2020 edition

Welcome to the summer edition of The Bugle, Scottish War Blinded’s quarterly member newsletter. As the Covid-19 pandemic continues and our services remain closed, we have adapted the way in which we support members.

Although our support has changed to reflect the current situation, we’d like to remind everyone that we are still here to help in any way we can. We’re pleased to highlight some of the creative ways in which the Scottish War Blinded team has supported members across the country.

We start this newsletter with an important charity update. We also include exercises and recipes for you to try at home as well as a range of articles from our expert rehabilitation team to help you to remain independent at home and feel confident when going outside.
