Edinburgh's specialist nursing home for people with sight loss

Braeside House is a modern and cosy nursing home for older people with sight loss who want to live in comfort, supported with tailored care from our expert nursing and caring staff.

You can find us in the Liberton suburb of Edinburgh, which can be easily reached by car or public transport.

At the heart of our care is understanding our residents’ needs. Walk around Braeside House and we’re sure you’ll be impressed by its warm and welcoming feel. The home has life-enhancing elements that help people with sight loss to feel comfortable, including lighting that reduces glare, tactile signage and sensory gardens.

Nutritionally balanced meals for health and happiness

We love our food at Sight Scotland. Nothing makes a house home quite like a good meal, and our in-house chefs prepare fresh and delicious meals that are nutritionally balanced to support your wellbeing.

Our in-house chefs regularly meet with residents to devise the weekly menus, which take into account their dietary needs and their likes and dislikes.

Plenty of choice

You can choose from either a cooked or continental breakfast, cooked or cold lunch options, and a choice of two-course evening meals.

Every fourth week we have a themed menu option, giving you a chance to try something new. Our chefs are well known for their home baking, and a range of healthy snacks and baked treats are available throughout the day at no extra cost.

Jeanette's story

Braeside House care staff help Jeannette to take care of her eyes.

“Staff put drops in my eyes three times during the day, plus once before I go to sleep. If I don’t put these drops in, it causes my eyes to go dry.

“I’m blind, but not as blind as I would be without the drops.

“I don’t think you could get a better place than this.”

- Jeannette Simon, resident at Braeside House care home since March 2018.
